Twas the night before back-to-school

I finished the school supply shopping yesterday morning. My daughter even found the elusive 12-pack of washable magic markers (the list calls for 12, every package seems to contain 10).

One stupid bag has gone missing! So here I am at Staples at 9:22 pm with the bleary-eyed masses.

Maybe I should put this under seniors issues because I KNOW I put the bag in my car...

Oy....at our house, the drama was about learning to use combination locks!

It isn't a school supply shopping list, it is a freaking scavenger hunt.

My two kids started school Tuesday.  Their list asked for 0.77 oz glue sticks.  0.77 ounces.  VERY specific.  Then it asked for a notebook.  No description.  Did they want a spiral bound one?  Three ring binder with notebook paper added?  Composition?  No clue, it just said a notebook.  I went with a composition one, and so far I haven't heard any complaints.

Maybe a notebook computer?

I ended up with a 24-pack or markers so she would have more rather than less than the prescribed number.

I'm also going to add how grateful I feel right now that we have disposable income. This list runs into a fair bit of money. I'm not sure how some families manage it.

I think the soma schools (maybe not all- but the two we’ve been in so far), have the PTA do bulk buying of supplies and you basically “pre order” in the spring, and PTA gets a bulk discount and a bit of $ goes to PTA for the school. (Something like that) it’s a win win as I don’t have to run for those weird random requests (I think last year one kid needed a single green marker among other things), and PTA makes some money. It’s too late of course for this year, but see if it’s an option at the end of this school year. I think flyers go in backpacks in May or so.

Yes we did that at Tuscan school. One fixed price, and it makes life so much easier.

I'll look for it next year. I ignored the email in June because I THOUGHT my daughter liked going supply shopping. This year she decided it wasn't something she cared about.

I actually got most of the list during a Shoprite trip. It was about 4 or 5 items they didn't have that I ran to Staples for. I think I left that bag in the shopping cart when i got back to my car. So if you found a bag with markers and colored pencils in a cart outside the Vauxhall Staples, you're welcome!  gulp

Staples was a zoo today.  I went in to buy some hanging file folders and decided to buy on-line or come back next week.
