Verizon Fios

Did anyone get hit with a $80 increase in their monthly bill?

Just read bill and it said "on demand increase".  We don't use on demand that often so I assume they mean they are just charging an increase of their own.

I know this topic was discussed previously but what is the average bill for triple play?  Granted I have a couple of features that makes my son able to use all the equipment but last month's bill was like $350.  Yes we have a HBO, Showtime and a few other premium channels but this absurd!!!

Nothing like that on my bill.  One tv with DVR, hbo and lots of tv channels. Phone and 75/75 internet runs $155/ month all in.

That's what I was thinking it should be.  Looked to see if I missed last payment but nope it was the increase for on demand.

I am calling tomorrow to find out what its about.  Then going to look around to see what is out there.

Thinking about dropping land line but just haven't been able to convince myself to do it.

Then just need internet, tv with 5 boxes ( most give you 4 included and charge for 5th), I think the only premium channel we occasionally watch is HBO and that's it.  My son said he does watch free on demand shows but not really movies.  May go with direct tv or xfinity.  Anybody have either of these two?  Opinions on pricing and service?

Well, your kid could have hit the $80 in on demand fees if not careful.

I asked about dropping the landline  when my contract was up.  They gave me the cost and it was not much different -- so they offered me the same triple play package I had initially so I have the landline for "free" for two more years.  I only use the landline for outgoing calls and have the caller id blocked.

My mom has dish TV and they are a disaster.  Internet service is lousy and they TV packages are very expensive (far more than FIOS ).  She does not have a cable option where she lives.

I had direct TV years ago -- and every time it was windy I would lose service.  Must have had tech people over a dozen times and wound up with 3 dishes on my roof.  They did not take the old ones because it would leave a little hole and patching the roof is not part of the deal.

Thanks.  I am going to call Verizon and see if I can renegotiate with them.  We are no longer under contract with them (could be part of the reason for price) so maybe if we sign a contract again we will get it reduced.

I was wrong with them providing special services for my son.  My wife said she bought other devices that lets him do all the voice activation and other things he can't do.   Mostly set up through his cell phone and smart tv.

We just renewed our contract. We're at $124.53 in total monthly charges. Which is a triple-play with 50/50 Internet, Showtime, HBO and an unused digital phone line. We have one set top box and 2 cablecards for TiVos. $300 sounds outright insane!

qrysdonnell, I'm thinking of switching to a tivo.  Does Verizon charge for the cablecard?  Thanks.

I pay 120.17/month for triple play, a set top box, 75/75, and no premium channels.  I watch 2 - 3 hours of tv a week, rarely use the phone - and need the internet.  Their high-speed internet was going to push the package to over $200 unless I was a new customer.

oh, the 75/75 speed is the speed if wired direct to router, otherwise much slower and that is how it works for all their bs advertised speeds.

Ok, so other son just told me he ordered a fight for $80 which explains that one.

Looking at the bill I pay $140.99 for my bundle.  $30 for fios 15/5, $80.99 for fios tv extreme HD, $30 for fios digital voice unlimited. Then $10 more for 50/50 internet speed, $43.99 for fully loaded entertainment package, $2.80 for router maintenance, $44.95 for 5 boxes and $32.11 in taxes and fees.

So taking off the $80, it still leaves me paying about $275. Per month.

This is crazy.

This is on top of $250 per month for 4 cell phones.

All of this is after getting a 10% discount for wife being a teacher.

Why do you have 15/5 and 50/50?

If you have a decent router you should be able to get 75M through wireless. Generally the routers you get from Verizon aren't going to be the best for a house full of equipment. Also, unless you're streaming multiple 4K TV streams at once I'd be surprised if you need more than 50/50. We had to upgrade from the basic mainly because the 5M upload speed doesn't really work for when I occasionally need to upload files to work. 50M is a lot of bandwidth for a household. Generally if it's not working for someone then the router is the problem and increasing the bandwidth might not really help. Buy a gaming router in the $175-$200 range or one of the newer mesh systems if you need multiple connection points. Avoid wireless extenders as they usually 1/2 your internal throughput - if you use one and you routinely get about 1/2 what you expect when doing a speedtest - that's why.
