Winter Weather Advisory for 1 - 2 inches of Snow Thursday Morning, Jan 20

Tues Jan 18

Keeping an eye on two potential snowfalls this week.

First, there is a fairly good chance of an inch or so overnight Wed - Thurs that could interfere some with the Thurs morning commute but will not be otherwise of concern.

More interesting is a pattern developing over the weekend that could turn into a substantial snow storm. Too soon for timing or snow forecast right now. The pieces are there but we need a couple more days to see if they come together. Best guess would be snow Sat into Sun, but this is just throwing darts at the wall.

If you keep using the 4 letter S word, we might have to suspend you from MOL.

The wind seemed to be howling last night as it did some previous nights. Are we getting anymore wind events?

Wed Jan 19 update

Tomorrow morning's minor snow event is on line for 1 - 2"

Precipitation should begin as light rain just after midnight tonight, changing over to light snow before dawn. Snow continues to late morning, messing with the commute but not likely to be heavy at any time. Cold air behind the system will freeze anything wet, so watch for icy patches under uncleared snow in the afternoon and Thurs evening.

As for this weekend, although we are not out of the woods yet, this morning's model runs all have the storm well offshore with only minor precipitation here.

25 mph gusts this afternoon but nothing like the other night's 50+ in the current forecast.

Thanks, Max!

The NWS has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for tomorrow morning's light snow event.

these events seem to be coordinated with my early morning doctor appointments.

I do prefer when Max can use words like “light,” that’s for sure. But the timing of these recent storms as far as commuting has been the pits.

Thurs morning Jan 20

Slightly warmer Temps this morning have held off the changeover a bit, at 6 am it is still lightly raining. Expecting change to light snow between 7 and 8. This will likely hold the total accumulation to an inch or less. Snow ending between 10 and 12 this morning. There is still a Winter Weather Advisory in effect this morning

Temps will continue to drop today, and tonight will be very cold. The cold is the main weather feature for the next several days. The high associated with the artic flow will help keep the system Saturday well to our south and east, so now do not expect any snow this weekend.

Do not expect to see temps above freezing before the end of next week.

Not planning on any further updates until/unless something interesting (weather wise) is going to happen.

So I guess we gotta put out the ice melt.
