What happened to the CHS Head of Guidance

I just read in The Village Green that there's a new acting director of guidance (Scott White) at CHS, but there's no word as to what happened to the former director. You may remember the problem I had with the former head (https://maplewood.worldwebs.co...) so I'm glad to see the change. Just curious what happened to cause her departure after less than 2 years.

I didn't remember your post but had a horrible exchange with her last fall. This is my third child in the district and I've never had such a negative experience.

My daughter and several other athletes were given advanced honors physics 9th period. My daughter had no first period, a study hall and several other moveable classes...as she's an athlete and would miss at minimum ten classes per semester I asked if she could be moved. Murray was adamantly against any change DUE TO SPORTS, ahtough we explained how our daughter was not an athlete, she was a student-athlete and putting her in an advanced class knowing she'd miss several classes per week was just setting her up to fail. She was totally irrational. She said teachers would meet privately with students who missed classes due to early dismissal. Maybe it's supposed to work that way but things don't always work as planned.

Ultimately after arguing with her for days my daughter moved herself into regular honors physics first period and had done exceptionally well. After all this went on I spoke to the STEM chair who was disappointed that mUrray wouldn't consider accommodating a student-athlete. It was very short sighted on Murrays part because my daughter DID have flexibility in her schedule and as a matter of fact the STEM chair specifically asked my daughter if she'd consider moving to a different advanced honors physics class after a few weeks, but by then she was settled into her new class and didn't want to move her entire schedule around.

Good riddance.

Dr Murray resigned...her last day is 6/2/18.

Murray was originally hired as Supervisor of Youth Development & Pupil Services.

She was not trained as a guidance counselor nor had any guidance experience.  She ended up running the Guidance Dept hands on because someone else left (Giordano?).  Her inexperience in this specialty was evident.

Here is a partial screenshot of the org chart from March 2017.

Murray is in charge of Youth Development and Pupil Services for grades 6 - 12.

Whatever the job title, Murray was originally hired in August 2016 to replace Giordano, who had resigned two months earlier.

ETA: From the list of resolutions for the Aug. 22, 2016, BOE meeting, when Murray was introduced (and which I coincidentally attended): “Ms. Murray is replacing Dr. Jennifer Giordano, who resigned.

In any event, she had no experience running a guidance department.

ironic, because when I questioned her policy, she referred back to her prior experience which was obviously irrelevant.
