What happens if we use no snow days?

My kids asked a good question -- what happens if we use none of our three snow days?

There is a give back day scheduled on May 22 for one of the three days, but I believe we haven't used any days this winter.

Do the kids go to school two extra days?  Do we pick two more days to close to stay at the contracted 180 day year? Not a question that I've run into in 15 years or so as a district parent.

Obviously if we are going to be give two bonus days off, it would be great to know when they might be...

Well now you've done it! Well have a blizzard next week for sure now!   grin

From a district email last March:

Four emergency closing days are built in to the school year. If we do not use all four emergency closing days, any unused days become “give back days.” The give back days are scheduled for the end of the year (in previous years, give back days were scheduled for Memorial Day weekend). This means that the last day of classes could change, depending on the number of emergency closing days used.

Given the switch back this year to a Friday giveback on Memorial Day weekend (and only three emergency days built in this year), my takeaway would be that two more days will be shaved off the end of the year.

Not with the weather forecast I'm seeing!

(my kids asked me this a few weeks ago, but I waited until March to ask)

Of course, we might end up applying them to an infection control closure, if we aren't lucky...

ETA: That email was sent March 8, so maybe a similar one confirming this year’s closing date will be coming out soon.

This year, it looks like only three emergency days were built into the schedule, and the calendar says May 22 is the first give-back day. My takeaway would be that schools will be closed that Friday of Memorial Day weekend, and then two more days will be shaved off the end of the year in June.

Thanks for the link. I did see that, but given how thoroughly they've revamped the calendar, I don't know if it still holds. The official documents on the District website only discuss what is done if we only use two days.

Hoping the District gives us information sometime soon. I have a note in my personal calendar that suggests the last two days (a Monday / Tuesday) might be the give backs, but can't find confirmation anywhere, and am realizing it might have an impact on some family visit decisions.

with the teachers contract they can't go 2 extra days...teachers are paid for 180 instruction days and x number of professional days.
