What is this thang?

Looks like you’d serve something with it.  

I don’t know if this is it, but the upraised edge looks like it would be handy if you were sliding this under, say, a biscuit or a tart or some other small round serving of something. 

Unless you’re lefthanded.

The thing appears to be completely useless but its cute.

That would be perfect for slicing off and serving a slice from a cylinder of canned cranberry sauce.

speaking of what is this thang, we have a pair of these. They are dated around 1900. Our best guess is a Galileo thermometer holder.
