Who's Got the Lowdown on Timeshares?

I inherited a timeshare.  Never really wanted a timeshare, but I've got one now...and now I need advice on how to rent it out.

It's actually quite stunning -- a 2 BR corner unit suite at Palm Shores Resort in Palm Shores on the East Coast of FL. Sleeps 6.  Right on the Atlantic beach --with a southeastern exposure.  The private patio looks right out over the ocean.  Resort has 4 to 4.5 star rating on Trip Advisor.

I just can't use it.  And trying to figure out how to rent it myself, rent it through the resort, or sell it has been a dizzying and exhausting experience!

Have you had any direct experience with renting out or selling a Florida timeshare?  Have you worked with an above-board timeshare-related company that will help me rent or sell it?

I know there are chasm-like traps out there, but I also know there are many people who own or rent timeshares who just love them, and this one really is stunning.

Before she passed my mother bought a week share in this RCI owned resort.  The week we have is from end of June through July 4th.

Any and all advice is much appreciated!

I am pretty sure that I stayed at this timeshare for free when it was first built.  The free part was one of those listen to our pitch and we will let you stay for free.  Nice property (back in 1998 when I visited).

Find a support website for timeshare owners especially of that particular property and pose your questions there.

My experience has been that 99% of timeshares are not worth the yearly ever-increasing maintenance fees.  With that said, timeshares at Whistler in BC have appreciated enormously.  Whistler is another spot where we stayed for free as a result of partaking in a timeshare sales pitch.

Use redweek.com.   Very easy to rent it out, see pricing, get a sample contract, and get the proper ad traffic.  Depending on your weekly rental revenue, you will see soon enough if its worth your time renting it every year relative to your maintenance fees

Thanks.  This is where I'm leaning ("sister.co-owner" is very suspicious). Do you have personal experience with Redweek?  TIA.

do you still owe on the 'purchase' price?  If you aren't concerned about making a profit, I would practically give it away to be done with it.

We have an RCI timeshare.  My husband purchased it before I met him, so I don’t know all the details.  If you’d like to talk with him about the timesheet, PM me.  I like it because it kind of forces us to take a vacation at least once a year somewhere, that we’d otherwise would probably forego.  We’ve stayed in many places - Bend, OR, Sedona, AZ, Vancouver, BC, Quebec, Canada, etc. - and have never had a bad experience.  Guess I should add that he purchased it outright while on vacation in Cancun, after probably way too many cocktails. I was dating him at the time when he purchased it, and can vouch that he came back to the states with stitches in his head. Can’t make this stuff up.

Yes i have used Redweek numerous times
