Wonderful experience at Bloomfield Rescue Shelter

Two weeks ago, we rescued a lovely, chubby, full of life English Bull dog mix who was surrendered by its owner. We had seen him on PetFinder.com and wanted to meet him. He was a little yucky looking but nothing a bath and a brush couldn't fix. And oh, he had that dreadful "cherry eye." We thought about him often. The eye thing freaked me out but his personality was so wonderful. Mr. K and I couldn't shake him. After a week or so, we called to check if he was still there and he was. We hurried there, gave references which were checked immediately and once done, paid our fee and took him home. The volunteers there are so wonderful and so kind. So many on PetFinder.com never return calls and never look at submitted apps. It's very frustrating. Bloomfield gave us info on local vets who would neuter at a discount (I saved $300 off my vet's normal fee) and the doctor I met in Cedar Grove, Dr. Wellington, even took care of his "cherry eye." He's thriving and loves his new playmate and his new family.

Thanks to all at the Bloomfield shelter. We're very happy - and we think he is too!

Adorable! How old is he? Love bulldogs - if he would like to meet up with another lmk and I can introduce him to my Lul

Hi @doulamomma! He's super sweet / friendly. That would be great. He's a year and a couple of months.

Funny story about him: we saw him on PetFinder as "Hajji", his original name from his owner. When we con't our search and checked back on line to see if he was still available, his name was changed to "Boss." We asked why the name change and very sullen, the lovely volunteers said that people didn't want to adopt "an Islamic dog." Just WOW.

But wasn't Hajii the name of Speed Racer's Indian (from India) friend? Whoops that's Hadjii from Johnny Quest! (Their bulldog was named Bandit)

And hajii is now pretty derogatory slang found in the urban dictionary. So I guess the younger generation knows the word and makes that awful connection. Best of luck with Boss - or did you rename him?
