"anything apple" - well, ipad really, and open for anyone to ask questions

Just a vent really, but I wish there was an easier way to get something from one iThing to another iThing, without having to sync each to iTunes. The cloud helps a little but our old iPod touch operating system doesn't support the cloud.

There's a Bump app that I used to use to move things from my iPhone to my iPad. You have to have Bump installed on both devices, then you just bump them together and the item is moved. It's bee a few years, though. Not sure it's still around.

Yep - have seen folks use it recently on new hardware.

Freeway, OS upgrades don't need app upgrades unless your version of the app doesn't work with the new OS version. Look up the adobe support page.

Tarheelsinnj, you need Dropbox.

IM80, I'm glad I helped! I love the low prices of iPhone/iPad apps. I often skip the trial versions and buy the real app, even if I don't know I'm going to like and use the app.

Awesome so its like linux.

That swiping motion won't always work for me - yet. Even when the screen is clean. I also can't make things big or little with the pinch motion. Yet. Not matter how hard I try.

And I'm not getting into how many MOL threads I never wanted to go near, I've opened!! grin)

FW, I'm not on FB so I can't see how to play distant Scrabble with someone else. That's why I've deleted it - it's useless to me. And I really wanted to play with my sister, too.
I play it via Facebook in general, but at least one of my Scrabble opponents is not on Facebook, but registered for a Scrabble (or some related entity) username and I can play with her via that username. I don't know exactly how it is set up, but I know that there is a way. If I figure it out I'll let you know.

Oh, and I got tired of the ads pretty quickly and decided it was worth the $2 or whatever to upgrade to the ad-free version. I've definitely gotten my money's worth on that purchase.

It's not that I,m cheap, more that until I know games I'm going to be playing, I don't want to spend unnecessarily. OTOH, I'm looking forward to playing with at least 2 MOLers eventually. oh oh

Shemademedothis has a question for his iPad: he wants to the inbuilt mike to record a seminar this evening. But he can't adjust the recording volume, only the playback volume. Any ideas? Many thanks.

Well ... if you change your mind about Scrabble, let me know and I'll play with you. (And probably LL and SuzanneNg also.)

Might need a week to get sorted re scrabble (stuff going on)

From a reliable website:
There is no hardware or system sensitivity adjustment for the built-in mic. The recording app may have a mic gain adjustment.

Do I want to install IOS version 7.0.6?? It just came as an update and is 'awaiting verification'.

Absolutely.

OK, really basic question about the calendar that comes inbuilt with iPad software: there's an event I've entered on a day and time that I am trying to delete. Not to reschedule but to delete altogether. In trying to do this, I've landed up with 2 events that I don't want booked at all.

Can't see how to delete an event that's been scheduled, or how to undo an entry so you have a free day again. Is anyone still awake enough to help, pls?

Edit-->scroll all the way down-->Delete Event

I didn't see that. Maybe my keyboard hid it - will try again! Thank you SO much! oh oh

Can I just say 'D'Oh!'..... Feel like a dunce #-O

Easy to miss if you don't scroll, no dunce cap needed blank stare

Nah, I'd scrolled, but the typing keypad was still 'up' and had blocked the bottom of that column. I haven't got used to closing the keypad off when I'm not using it.

Ok. A really really basic question, that goes almost back to the beginning of the thread.
How can I tell if I have iTunes installed on the iPad?

We fixed our problems on the desktop, and the home network, and D's iPad. But I don't remember doing anything to install it on mine. I have an icon for the iTunes Store, but I've never bought anything from inside it. And I've never told anything to synch with iTunes, nor have I yet stored any music etc on here. If there isn't something specifically labelled 'itunes' does that mean I don't yet have it installed?

See screenshot- any music you have will be stored in the 'Music' app (lower right). iTunes Store app (fourth row) is exclusively for purchasing music and movies. It should come built in (this screenshot is for an iPhone but iPad should be the same as long as it's iOS7.x)

I think that iTunes (aka the iTunes store and the App store) come preinstalled on iPads. I know that was true of my iPhone.

The stoe and the App Store are on the desktop as shown; the Music icon is empty (I subscribe to Spotify but haven't done anything except browse and 'star' musice I like).

So I guess this means I need to get iTunes as an app? Sorry, I just don't understand the jargon: I thought basically iTunes was just music or video and I'm seeing it's for a universe of other things that all feature the term in their name.

If you haven't purchased or imported any music, then I think that's why your music is empty.

You dont need a separate app. iTunes is the same as iTunes Store. (It's just iTunes on my iPhone.)

Spotify has nothing to do with your music library.

Do you want to buy music from iTunes? If so, have you set up an account for paying? (I think it's called getting an Apple ID. It's been a few years.)

Or do you want to transfer music from CDs to your iPad?

(Marcsiry -- 904 email messages? Shoot me now.)

For starters, just open iTunes and look around. Go to the music section and search for some artists you like. You can listen to samples of everything without an account and without paying.

Thank you all! I apparently need to synch my Spotify music choices with iTunes so I can listen offline; need to back up from iPad to desktop (following Tom's advice), and apparently a couple of the entertainment and cooking apps I want need to synch as well.

I guess I need to go into Settings to synch...? oh oh

iTunes and Spotify are competitors so I'd be surprised if their services could talk to one another and sync.

Their support staff told me to do this. I think it's also in their FAQs, buried where I would never have thought to find it.

OK, learned something new today.
