I guess this didn't make the news over there but most state legislatures here have banned observations of April Fools day. The pranks have been determined to potentially cause psychological and physical harm. And studies have shown upwards of a 32% decrease in productivity in critical industries such as manufacturing and energy productiom.

Hazing is something different
There were some fun true but weird news items including this gem from New Scientist's Feedback page, reporting on Florida's newspaper 'The Villages Daily Sun' which informed [reader] Andrew Doble that "researchers in Southern California have recaptured a female mountain, and treated it for mange".
