Delta (Oakland/Valley)

I guess some gas station workers are constantly on the phone for the same reason others are constantly texting (even while driving) or talking on the train ("Hi I'm on the train.")  As humans we have a need to feel connected.  Although personally I enjoy going through long sections of my day without talking to anyone.

I'd love to see the data on the poll that's mentioned in this article.  It says the majority of NJ residents don't want to see the ban on self-serve repealed.  It would be interesting to see the results for NJ residents that grew up in NJ versus residents that grew up out-of-state.

And here's about our state's odd situation and the low likelihood of savings from allowing self serve

I routinely tipped the guy at the Valley/Oakland Delta but stopped going there after he ripped me off (charged premium CC price instead of regular cash). Haven't been back since and I'd been going there for years. Hope it was worth it AH!

Remember when they cleaned your windshield and checked your oil? And air was free?

I recall a time when most motorists would routinely tip the gas station attendant.

A lot has changed.

Hell, I remember when gas was $0.29/gallon

Anyone else remember the commercial where a young kid is fishing around in his pockets for a second quarter because the gas station attendant was being so courteous as to wash his front and back windows?

I've had someone wash my window once in a blue moon over the last 15 or so years -- but check my oil?  Never

The last time anyone washed my windows was in Canada. He also did the side mirrors since it was February and they were covered in salt.

the gas stations on the turnpike at the assorted rest stops south of here usually wash my windows. I always tip the guy.

Follow-up question: Does "the guy" actually work for the gas station? Or does he just happen to have squeegee access?

They are employees of the gas station.

yes-southern turnpike reststops regularly clean my windshields-I also tip them

They probably earn an extra $20 or 30 per shift. Good for them.

Apologies the guy who pumps the gas also washes the windows.

I've had the windows washed at pretty much every turnpike rest/fuel stop below exit 9. Its always the guy pumping the gas even if there are 50 cars in line.
