Did you feel a rumble?

I just read on CNN that there was a magnitude 4.0 aftershock at 5:59. We felt it on the first floor, but a family member who was in the basement didn't.

Evidently there have also been little aftershocks all day, I didn't feel any of them.

Was on a Zoom with people in a few other parts of the state - they felt it in Bergen county, not the person in south jersey though

Same. Folks in Hackensack, NYC, Jersey City and here in Maplewood felt it.  The person who felt it the most was in Bridgewater, which makes the most sense given the epicenter was Lebanon.  Friend contacted folks in PA and they felt it. aftershocks reported as well later.

Brilliant!!! Except I can't seem to copy content.   gulp

Funnily enough, I didn't feel the aftershock that so many did at 6pm. I was in my home office when the first quake happened and thought for 2 seconds it was a big truck, but then figured it out instantly same as Pupski did. But the aftershock, I was 20 feet away from when I felt the OG one.

Felt the aftershock this evening.

Marked safe from the Great NJ Quake of the Century here in Hong Kong.

I’m just catching up on news now and read about the quake on BBC Online - saw their clips from NYC and ‘somewhere in New Jersey’. Very glad you all seem to be safe and well!

Remember to get everything checked for cracks etc  rolleyes rolleyes

I was in volunteering in the swamp. The ground is soft. It felt like I was losing balance and thought I the next stage was, I was going to pass out.

You shouldn’t be going through any swamp after the deluge we’ve been having every week, unless you’re a carpenter building an Ark…

Yes but I'm recalling typhoon warnings on the Star Ferry.

surprisingly, there was no damage from this week's rain. We are still repairing damage from last month. But no new damage from Tuesday or Wednesday.

just curious:  we’re experiencing a huge increase in cases of Dengue and Ross River fevers (infections carried by mosquitoes biting especially after heavy rainfalls). There have even been a few malaria cases further north, quite unusual.  Aren’t you warned to watch out for newly hatched bitey things after heavier than usual rain in Spring onwards?

no - we never have issues with mosquitoes carrying any dangerous diseases around here.

Not entirely true.  West Nile is a known problem here.  With global warming, we can expect a surge in other mosquito-borne diseases as well.  Puerto Rico and some of our more southerly states are seeing a sharp increase in Dengue Fever.  This is a global issue.

Not much of those diseases in northern New Jersey. There was a major Yellow Fever outbreak in Philadelphia in 1787. It was described in a book, "Bring Out Your Dead." Prisoners were taken from jails to collect bodies.

Related information --- Of course, the swamp is loaded with mosquitoes. We wear net jackets which helps. But last June, we ordered "Ranger Ready" repellent from Amazon. NOT ONE BITE, since we started using it. It does not contain Deet.
