Perhaps a slightly under talked about aspect of this is the wind. I would be relatively surprised if we didn’t get a blizzard warning out of this. I’m very high on this event.
I think the wind will be east of here, perhaps the city but more likely the Island.
If that bent back occlusion parks itself over us the way the NAM3 say it will, we will get blizzard warning level wind
Two feet of snow AND howling winds AND a continuing world-wide health pandemic. When can we expect the locusts? Oh, wait. I read today we are due for cicadas this spring. Of course we are...

Is anyone hoping for 3 feet of snow?
You know there's a guy out there somewhere, eating the hot sauce, stroking the bunny and hoping for 3'.

In Maplewood, Monday recycling has been moved to Tuesday.
I had to come here to say I was excited about lots of snow.
I'm also excited about Brood X cicadas.
Because I'm weird that way.

I just finished my first one shovel wide pass on one side of the house. Going out soon to do the same on the other side. A bit at a time is the only way I could possibly clear two feet of snow, even in two days. Snow is light but there is a lot of it and it keeps coming. Street was plowed once this morning and apart from the pile on the driveway apron, you would never know it had been done. Sorry, I am hoping for a nice long dry slot this afternoon when the snow is supposed toi be at its heaviest.
As of Monday morning, 2/1, there is a major Winter Storm underway.
Forecast is on track for 18" - 24" of snow between last night and Tues night. With several inches on the ground already this morning, expect heavy snow bands to start to develop midday or early afternoon. These bands could produce snowfall of 1" - 3" per hour. Steady winds this afternoon around 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph could produce whiteout conditions.
Avoid travel, stay off the roads.
Heavy snow continues until this evening and moderate snow tonight. Snow showers likely Tues with a few more inches accumulating. Snow ends late Tues.
The NWS has continued a WINTER STORM WARNING until Tues at 6am.

I'm with you, every few hours we clear a few inches. We have been using the leaf blower mostly because it is fun, but the serious snow with the wind may require the shovel! I am happy to go out every so often and clear the end of the driveway when the plow comes through. I was at my daughter's home during the January 16' epic snow and remember returning home and being met by a 4' wall of icy snow at the end of my driveway.
I measured 4.8" at 8:00am
Also of note, melted core was 0.45"
Storm is on track as forecast

I feel as though by shoveling the end of the driveway before it is over, you end up making a place for even more snow on the driveway on the next plow pass.
Does that make sense?
I would wait on the driveway apron. Plows keep coming and this is the hardest part of the property to shovel. At least they are not plowing onto the sidewalk - yet.
With all of the expected wind, I wonder if it is even worth bothering with shoveling/snow blowing until it's over. It's going to be a huge job any way you tackle it!
Looking out the window, I see near white out conditions now. CBS radio weather report said to expect an additional 2 feet of snow in addition to what we have now with snow extending until tomorrow evening. Is this true for Maplewood?

Not in my opinion. It just keeps piling higher and denser.

No. Two feet total.
Weather.gov says 10-16 inches thru this afternoon and another 2 to 4 tonight. So max (Max?) 20 inches?

This sounds about right but wouldn't be surprised by +/- 2 inches on either side of that.
Funny how 20" can seem moderate when there have been predictions of over 2 feet.
When will the wind die down? Clearing snow is just creating holes for snow to blow into.
