Is anyone watching "The Slap"?

BTW, am I the only one who thinks that Connie is a little b****? Connie is trying to seduce her friend's husband (let's not forget that he's a creep too) while at the same time hugging her, kissing her and telling her she loves her!?!! Save it!

Agreed. Connie is bad news. Can't stand the creep husband too.

Connie is looking for a father figure, I think. I don't think she's terrible, just a lost soul who is young and immature and doesn't know it. Story is as old as time. I think the ultimate (hopefully) rejection by Hector and anger from her friend with the photos may clue her in a bit. Plus, she's had some resolution about Daddy, and that might help.

Connie is TERRIBLE, sorry. Teen aged girls can be terrible and carry agendas. I agree with @Hahaha. Connie didn't need a father figure in as much as she needed to feel like an adult and seduce a married man and screw over her friend/boss who has been nothing but kind to her. Hector, who is super weak, IMO on many, many levels, as the adult should have nipped it in the bud, but he's a disaster too.

In Aishya's case, how horrible to have not one, but two allegedly trusted people be backstabbers.

Ken Olin (thirtysomething) directed many of the episodes.

I believe in the scene on set in the Anouk episode, Ken Olin has a cameo as the director.

Connie is gross, and Peter Sarsgard is always, always gross.

Alright, I never liked Rosie and Gary - although now that I think of it, there's not a likable character in the entire cast - but watching tonight's Rosie episode and it just struck me how annoying and awkward her accent is. She's Aussie. Could it be her failed attempt at a Brooklyn accent?

Ooh and she's also just the most annoying and self-obsessed person. I want to slap her! Good grief!

Rosie is a nut job who has turned her child into a monster.

Yes and Yes!

What annoys me most about Rosie and Gary as a couple is that Gary NEVER checks her. He never comments in positive or negative, her parenting skills. It's clear that he most likely is the better parent, but because he too is self-obsessed and into his art, he doesn't want to be bothered. When he comes home and sees Hugo going off the rails, he hides and grabs a beer.

I enjoyed when Rosie was getting skewered on cross. But I have a question: when the attorney asked was Rosie drinking while nursing Hugo, why didn't he also ask WHY was she still nursing Hugo????

My guess is the prosecutor would object and the judge would agree.

I don't understand how Rosie is Aisha's best friend and Anouk praises Rosie for being a
wonderful mother. I thought it was very interesting when Rosie was on the stand and it was revealed that Rosie and Gary both had 3-4 drinks or more at the bbq and neither one was watching their child, esp. considering the boy's behavioral problems. They are both weirdos.

Many use "best friend" too loosely IMO. Aisha and Anouk are smart characters. If Rosie was really their friend, they would have taken her aside years ago and discussed her parenting skills. In my years as being a parent, I met all sorts of types, including Rosie's (but not that extreme). No parent wants to see what is obvious to everyone else. If Rosie acknowledges that Hugo does need help, it reflects poorly on her as a mother. And if it reflects poorly on her, then Hugo's behavior also reflects poorly on her choice of mate. Rosie jabs Gary whenever she can. They had major problems long before Hugo was born. Hugo just exacerbates them.

Can't recall another courtroom scene I've watched in which I wanted BOTH sides to lose...

I thought Gary was starting to seem almost likable until this last episode--did he hook up with the young artist, or did he just go home with her and sit up all night brooding and nursing a drink while she slept? Weird choice to have a random hook-up the night before your big trial.
The thing about Rosie's accent is it's not consistent. It's also really low-class sounding, which doesn't seem quite right since she's described as a bit of a dilettante, with her forays into fashion, magazine publishing, modeling, etc. The fact that 1.) she doesn't work, 2.)her husband is able to be an artist for a living and 3.) they are able to stay in Brooklyn means there's some amount of money floating around.

I guess you don't watch Judge Judy much.
Or, for that matter, have much experience in real Courtrooms

And to be serious, isn't the point of the show that both sides are losing?

Yes. But initially I disliked Harry so much, I was hoping he'd roast. I still dislike him intensely, but I'm no fan of Rosie either. This show is like the anti-Parenthood. In that show, nearly everyone is generally likable and at least tries to be a good parent/spouse. In The Slap, few if any characters are at all likable, and they all are generally bad parents/spouses.

On a nitpicky note, I don't think Rosie would have the standing to reject a plea agreement. It isn't a civil case. It's the People vs Harry, not Rosie vs Harry. The DA would be free to cut a deal. (Which Harry would be free to reject).

So... thoughts on ending?

Good ending. The judge got it right.

Judgement was good, but the episode on the whole was a bit of letdown in terms of interest.

The judge was VERY much on point. The most likable of them all was Richie and Manolis, who weren't even main characters. Strange.

I think they were main characters. They each had an episode. The series showed the situation from the point of view of the various characters. Almost all of them were main characters in that sense.

I can't discuss this now. I'm sorry. Just in shock over JML.

Will come back in a week or so.

I thought the final episode was excellent! So appropriate to what I feel happens in society so much today.

What has happened to kindness? We need to live it and teach it to our young people. Kindness does matter.

Last episode felt too forced to me. Like they had to wrap everything up (which, of course, they did, since it was final episode). But everything was so compressed, it didn't feel authentic. That being said, I'm glad BOTH sides lost!

I agree that Richie and Manolis were the most likeable of the central characters. All of the characters were in some sort of crisis and the slap forced them to confront it. With Richie and Manolis the crises were not driven by having done the wrong thing: Richie was trying to escape a painful past in which he was a victim and Manolis was trying to deal with his declining influence. Of course, Manolis loses ponts for bringing the lawyer into it.

Season 2 looking really good:
