Old School R&B

Bruh's, it doesn't get any more ol' skool than the Detroit Spinners kikn Games People Play on Soul Train.

Dig this!

...and shame on all of us if Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes don't make their way into this thread.

Pure Philly love!

...and how bout this little ride in the Way Back Machine as Boston's Tavares performs She's Gone on Soul Train!

Not exactly ol' skool but this Brian McKnight cover of the Hall & Oates classic Sarah Smile is the very definition of cool!

Happy Birthday Prince...this version is pretty old school R&B, starting with the intro

Marvin Isley, songwriter and bass player on this tune, died yesterday....

There was a time before Al Green got too big that he was the king of soul music.

heard this one yesterday for the first time in a long while...

Listening to War again, I remember how musical they were, the baseline, the horns, the rhythms but what I forgot was that these guys really could sing.

The Spinners live - one of my faves

OK, let's see how good you guys really are - One of my all time favorite soul songs and I forget who does it

"Girls, love the things they show, got to be where they go..." (or somethin' like that)

Who is the band and what is the name of the song?

I'm doing a lyric search now....ready....set......GO!

Nice! Thank you big brother all might-eeeee!

I've probably done these, but here they are again....

and because they come as a set.....

heres a terrific one that brings back so many memories

Ah, the band that wanted to be the Jackson 5. A classic! Thanks, man.

well, then in that mode heres a J5 hit...

Try this one on for size......

heres one from another NJ group -they put themselves together and recorded while in prison -

escorts song removed from YouTube.

MonJay - I like Lenny Kravitz, really good cover...

You want a 'cover'? Here ya go.

I'm thinking about all the great cassette tapes of old Rhythm Review shows I threw out, makes me kind of sad. Then again, I had a bunch of Dead shows in there mixed with classic WBLS from the Quiet Storm and maybe even a few WLIR tapes as well.
I'm betting you listen, yah Hoops? So many great songs, so many timeless tunes.....
