I thought I remember seeing a thread about songs that sounded like other songs but since this is an Old School R&B thread I figured I'd post it here... It sounds to me that the Jackson 5 lifted this song for "I Want You Back" not the chorus, just the song up until the chorus. Listen and imagine the lyrics to "I Want You Back", ( someone picked you from the bunch, one glance was all it took, Now it's much too late for me to take a second look) they fit perfectly

I don't get this. Didn't "I Want You Back" predate the Rollers song by a few decades?Maybe I'm reading this incorrectly.

Numero Group, an outstanding Chicago label, dives into the vaults (read: boxes) of long-gone regional or even foreign labels -- mostly but not exclusively soul -- and reissues what it unearths. The Rollers song was recorded for the Deep City label but not released until 2007 after Numero rediscovered it. I couldn't find when it was originally recorded; a Numero blurb says only that the song "borrows heavily" from "I Want You Back." So post-Jackson 5, but likely no more than a few years, not decades.
