Prospect Church Sign

I don't object to the sign by Prospect Presbyterian, but it is such a beautiful building that I so hope they can put a stone surround around the sign eventually.

Not around it. In front of it and 5 ft. high.

Columbia HS needs a sign like that, because they have as lot of info to disperse. You also have mixed use, like a 7 11, etc., right across from it, so the neighborhoods are not aesthetically comparable at all.

@callista I did not say the neighborhoods were the same. I said that people were very hostile towards the Columbia sign when it first when up - and there are many homes around the school, not just businesses. But, with time, people got used to it, the rose garden around it helps cover it up a lot of the time and things often look their worst when they are their newest, because they are their most intrusive then.

I remember the Columbia sign debacle.... however the HSA beautification committee along with local donations helped that

Drove by the sign tonight, and I think y'all are overreacting. Could be better but could be a LOT worse.

Also, I think they should rotate it 90° so you see it as you drive by. As it is now, only the folks in the house across the street can read it without taking their eyes off the road.

Just get rid of it. And Max is right; if any sign is kept in front of the church, it should be rotated so passers-by can read it more easily.

As for CHS , the roses have been growing in front of the school building since forever.

Why is this sign even there? Does everyone driving down Prospect need to know what is going on at the Church? It seems like people who go there can read the bulletins. Were there meetings that this ugly sign was necessary?

There is a lot of pedestrian traffic on Prospect Street near the corner of Tuscan Road, where the sign is located. Since the church has no parking lot, I would imagine that most, if not all, of the persons worshiping there walk by that sign whenever they enter or leave the building. No need to orient the sign for vehicular traffic. if memory serves, this is the approximate location of the prior sign, which nobody objected to when it was there.

The previous sign was also ugly, but unobtrusive. You know, that commandment - love thy neighbor As yourself - how would the church feel if the homes around it put up hideous neon signs in their front yards facing the church?.

Just because there was a sign, just because they can - doesn't make it neighbor or community friendly to do so.

I think everyone is missing a point here... it's not only to alert people who are already members as to what's going on at the church—it's most likely an effort to generate more interest in the church from people who do NOT yet attend there.

I haven't seen it, so I can't speak to the aesthetics, but I suspect people will adjust, maybe the church will do something to soften the effect, and everyone will move on.

I've driven by a dozen times (during the day) and have yet to even notice it. Perhaps it's more eye-catching at night...

If it's primarily an advertisement, then, I'm all the more horrified.

Public places post about public events. The Ethical Culture Society even posts their discussions on an old fashioned but, nevertheless, lit sign. Is that ok? Because there seem to be two strains in this thread: critics of the particular sign's aesthetic, and critics of a church announcing itself.

I have no criticism about a church announcing itself; that would be weird, in my opinion. My complaint is the sign goes completely against the aesthetics of the church and surrounding neighbourhood.

The sign is hideous. Period.

Such sensitive eyes. Who gives a frig about this sign? The melodrama about this is completely over the top.

It's pretty much the Ark in Indiana Jones, it seems.

I would go to Morrow just because they don't have a garish sign, Prospect screams we are so over the top that we need neon to advertise our Church.

Noticed that the sign was turned off when I drove past at 9pm.
