Roy Moore

And yes, it was his racism but IMO, the pedophilia outweighed the racism. Women voters can stomach a lot: infidelity, alcoholism/drugs and being a racist but when it comes to an adult man coercing or raping a 14 year old, they draw the line.

apparently an awful lot of white women don't draw that line.

I guess the part about Moore's supporters that tickles me... Well, the Bible says you can repent and be forgiven.

---problem is, Moore doesn't repent because he doesn't acknowledge doing any of the things of which he is accused.

We are all (well, most of us) happy that Moore lost. But a Moore win would have benefited Democratic candidates in "18. The Repubs would have been saddled with The Orange SthiGibbon AND Moore along with their candidates. Now they are stuck with just the image of the Orange Skidmark.

Well, Trump and the national GOP went all in on this child molester. They're gonna have to defend that. And I think this #metoo movement is advancing on the Orange SthiGibbon himself. This could be interesting, especially with UN Ambassador herself saying the Trump-abused women should be believed.

Good Riddance,

Ron Carter

The exit poll figures show the choices made by voters, including those who are white women, who showed up to vote.  What I don't know is what percentage of all white women came out to vote.  A lot of the Republican ones may have just stayed home, unable to vote for Moore but also not willing to vote for Jones.

Alabama claims to have 3.3M registered voters, although those figures are disputed; it is thought it is more like 3M. Last night with 88% of the votes counted, there were about 1.3M votes cast. Seems a lot of people stayed home.

Based on men voted into office:

Woman have voted for Kennedy's, Joe Arpaio, Nixon, Mayor Barry, Marty Walsh, David Duke (didn't win but women voted for him), Clinton, Spitzer, Mark Sanford...really, what did I type that was incorrect?

What?  Imagine if a man had made a post like this.

I imagine a lot of Democrats stayed home as well, since Alabama has made it very difficult to register, due to their voter ID requirements designed to limit minority voting.

There were reports last night of voter intimidation, police asking for ID's and looking for voters who had warrants. Also, unusually long lines. People were begging for those in line to stay in line; they had the right to vote.

Some women voters any how.

IMHO part of what last night proved is that the Democratic Party should spend more time getting out the votes of Black People than courting the votes of Middle and Upper Class Republican leaning White Women.

The statistic that was absolutely confounding the "pundits" on TV this morning is that Black people came out to vote for Jones in the same numbers as voted for Obama.

NY Daily News nails it.

Don't pick on the horse. As someone  said on Morning Joe the horse didn't pick the jackass on his back.

we know from last November, that staying home is also a decision with consequences in an election.  And staying home is still not drawing a hard line.  Drawing a line would mean taking a proactive stance and voting for Moore's opponent.

voter turnout yesterday in AL was 40%.  That may seem like a very low number, but it's actually quite high for a special election with no other candidates or issues on the ballot.  It's actually higher than NJ's turnout and almost on par with VA on Election Day this year.

But seriously, though, it’s the abortion thing. As long as he’s for tin baths and coat hangers, mtierney’s for him.

I had this idea for a Ray Moore campaign slogan: "He'll knock up your 14-year-old but at least she'll have to give birth."

There has to be a variation of the classic "why the long face?" joke involving Roy and his horse going into a bar but its not coming to me.

Jones won the race against an alleged child abuser by a very slim margin — 1.5%

GOP should be happy that it is not stuck with a poor candidate going forward. smile

pretty sure this was sarcasm

Given the amount of money the RNC spent trying to get the child molester elected, I suspect they are less than pleased.

When will Jones take office?

McConnell said the new Senator would be sworn in after the New Year. So they are trying to get the tax vote without him.

I believe Alabama needs to certify the election. Which will not happen before the final congressional tax vote.
Each of the 67 counties will have until December 22 to report the results to the Alabama secretary of state's office.
After receiving the results, the State Canvassing Board -- which includes the governor, secretary of state and attorney general -- will have until January 3 to certify them. Alabama law requires at least two of the three members to be present for the certification.
The secretary of state's office told CNN before the election they expect to certify the results between December 27-29. That is contingent upon every county reporting their results on time. The office noted that a delay from one of the 67 counties could delay final certification.

ps - they can't do DACA, immigration reform, infrastructure. But when it comes to further enriching the rich its full steam ahead.

They have all been focused on cutting taxes for the rich since the 1980s (or earlier.)  It's literally all many seem to care about.

A horse walks into a bar. The bartender looks at him, "Hay Mack, why the long face?"

Just remember - half of Alabama voted for this obviously insane individual.

I couldn’t watch it all, sorry.

Yesterday on cable news, someone from the GOP said, "If we elect cuckoos and dingbats, we can lose anywhere." So common sense but yet, they put forth these men who lust after young girls and cry for the good old days of slavery.

I just stumbled across an article about how Moore's son, 27, had been arrested recently for the 9th time.   Not a ringing endorsement of bible-thumping as a child rearing strategy.

It's the hypocrisy of it all. Incredible.

Seth Meyers does the Alabama election round-up.  At 3:30, the Moore campaign spokesperson's deer-in-the-headlights paralysis is priceless. Mini-stroke?
