So NAACP leader Rachel Dolezal is really white?

I once knew of a woman who said she was "black by injection" -- maybe that's the case with her (like @phenixrising said)? Regardless, I'm laughing about this all day. I can't even feel sad for her.

"Black by injection"? What does that even mean? LOL!

And is that a wig or did she put a chemical in her hair to make it spiral curl? And what does she use on her skin? FASCINATING!

I too am laughing but I caution a bit because honestly, she seems to be a tad mentally ill. No?

Just thinking the same thing. I'm getting a good laugh out of it but I hope she dosn't do something stupid.

Just so you don't have to watch the entire thing, the "gotcha" is at about 8:30.

Its almost painful to watch. After he shows her the picture she is like a deer in headlights.

"... a tad mentally ill..." Agreed. Clue1: Born in a Tee Pee. Parents "No she wasn't. Clue 2: "I lived in South Africa ". Parents: No, we did, and she never visited us while we were there. Clue3: I'm Black. Parents: No, she is not".

However this does not seem to effect her ability to function well as the NAACP seem pleased with her work.

Well done NAACP! I might even pay my membership dues this year.

NAACP STATEMENT ON RACHEL DOLEZAL

Baltimore, MD – For 106 years, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has held a long and proud tradition of receiving support from people of all faiths, races, colors and creeds. NAACP Spokane Washington Branch President Rachel Dolezal is enduring a legal issue with her family, and we respect her privacy in this matter. One’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership. The NAACP Alaska-Oregon-Washington State Conference stands behind Ms. Dolezal’s advocacy record. In every corner of this country, the NAACP remains committed to securing political, educational, and economic justice for all people, and we encourage Americans of all stripes to become members and serve as leaders in our organization.

Hate language sent through mail and social media along with credible threats continue to be a serious issue for our units in the Pacific Northwest and across the nation. We take all threats seriously and encourage the FBI and the Department of Justice to fully investigate each occurrence."

Excellent response.

The issue is whether she lied and purposely mislead the NAACP and her constituents about her racial identity.

Although there is cause to believe that some of the "hate mail" she received might not have been legitimate. Mail delivered to an old P.O. Box was missing any indication that it went through U.S.Mail channels. She reported 9 case of hate mail and various other racist activities aimed at her in the last 10 years.

http://www.salon.com/2015/06/12/stop_making_excuses_for_rachel_dolezal_the_spokane_naacp_officials_fraud_is_unforgivable/?source=newsletter

She also has a lengthy history, going back several years, of claiming she’s been targeted for hate crimes. Just this week, KXLY4′s Melissa Luck reported on Dolezal’s alleged problems, including one in which she told authorities “Someone had threatened her at work about her ethnicity.” She also claimed she’d received hate mail earlier this year. A police report indicates “the initial package Dolezal reported receiving did not bear a date stamp or bar code… it was either very unlikely or impossible that the package could have been processed through the post office, and that the only other alternative was that it had been put there by someone with a key.”

Not in my book. Calling this merely a legal dispute with her parents totally misses the point, presumably on purpose as it smacks only of PR damage control. It glazes over the most serious issue (not to mention the utter embarrassment), which is not about her parents, who happened to confirm the exposure of her lies, but with the pattern of lies and deceit themselves.

I don't think those issues are for the NAACP to address. They are the victims in this. Also nothing to be gained from throwing wood on the fire, this woman is going to burn on her own. Make a tasteful statement and just let her resign is the right way to go in my opinion.

When she purposely placed a black man in her photo and claimed him as her dad, to me, that's deceit and yes, a tad mental. Was she using being black to further a career in politics via the NAACP? Only she can answer that. From what I've read, she doesn't seem to be a harmful person except maybe to herself. The thing that does frighten me about her is when her lies began she was totally immersed in them and they became a part of her. That's not sane.

Jezebel has photos of her art work (she is an artist) and they are extremely beautiful and powerful. She is quite talented in art -- and the art of deception.

^ Agree. They are not responsible for her troubles.

No, but they're more than responsible for appointing her. Though to play decil's advocate, this may have been a really tough one to see coming.

What's offensive to me is their attempt to turn the tables and say that they welcome assistance from folks of all races, have a proud history of that, yada yada, as if to deflect the fact that she's white. Was anyone saying that white men and women shouldn't hold these positions? They're coming off rather defensive. Was there criticism of the fact she is white?

I don't get it. In that video, she still looks like a white woman to me.

A tad!? That's being kind, very kind. The woman is obviously bat***** crazy

Is race as immutable than gender? More?

I cannot take it:

One’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership.

CRITERION, damn it.

Criterion.

NAACP needs to get rid of her fake, phony, professional victim self ASAP and give the job to someone who doesn't lie and who actual does have experience being a minority.

Thanks Tom.

I have no problem with Caitlin Jenner and am willing to accept her expression as a woman despite the biological fact she was born with and still has male genetalia. Caitlin uses various cosmetics and other enhancements to further her expression as a woman.

How is this different? Rachael identifies as African/American despite her biological leanage which is clearly not of recent African ancestry. She uses various enhancements to further that expression.

Yes, one can argue she has furthered her career based on these enhanced expressions, but her employer says that is not the case.

Also has Caitlin Jenner not benefitting in a financial way from her recent expression as a woman?

This piece says it's "not a thing," but who gets to decide?

Really? I find her work insipid. It looks like the pop culture stereotype of African American art and it lacks any originality. I have a feeling that if she had chosen to pass as French, that she would were a striped Breton sailor shirt, a beret, and tuck a baguette under her arm.

Ugh, both are just so cliched.

If she could sing we could consider it 'blue eyed soul'...

Bullseye.

It says nothing about the left. If the story is true, it is about one wacko who doesn't represent any large group because she is a wacko.

Dunno about that, Tom. Wackos make up a large group.

What next? Is someone going to tell me Louie CK isn't black?

Sure. Errybody wants to be Black until the cops crash the pool party

+1. Was looking for a word, but can't do better than insipid. Trite, maybe.

Booya!

If she frames this as a long-term sociogical study, it could be like a modern day Black Like Me. Or maybe more like when Tyra wore a fat suit. Howwas she treated differently as a black woman than as a white woman? In theory, it could make an interesting book.

Or maybe this is more like White Chicks.

Sounds like you are going for "stereotypical"?
