Comment heard on NPR this morning: RNC staff members who were fired from their positions were given an option to re-apply for their jobs, but only if they agreed (signed statement? not listening that closely) that the 2020 election was stolen. RIP R party??
If true, one more step into scary.
eta: glad to retract if not true
yeah I had heard that, but it's a bit old. from a few weeks ago.
yesterday I read this story. The doctor had previously claimed that the covid vaccine made your body magnetic. Not surprisingly, (it's Ohio after all), that's not why her license was revoked in the first place.
Ohio board reinstates license of doctor who made controversial claims about COVID vaccines
and today there's this. If you haven't read anything about Ohio State's commencement yet, google it. The speaker was Chris Pan. OSU's prez is a real piece o' work.
Ohio State's drug-fueled Bitcoin shame starts at the top
A member of the Commencement Speaker Advisory Committee breaks ranks to set the record straight on Ohio State's national embarrassment.
The Democratic Party machine is very real and powerful in New Jersey. Even in our little town of Maplewood.
Could we not have silly claims like that spread here, as if this was the "SOMA Talks" FB group?
Why do you think the MDC changed their policy on endorsing candidates for TC?
Well, a local committee isn't the same thing as a "machine". I recall that the local committee has had discussions over the years about the candidate endorsement process, but maybe you have more specific information that you think is relevant here.

anyone alleging that the local Democrats are a "machine" is placing the blame in the wrong place. There is no Republican Party in Maplewood and thus no organized opposition to the Democratic nominee(s) in November.
Yes, it's a foregone conclusion that the Democratic TC primary is the de facto election. But whose fault it that?

The MDC has effectively controlled who wins the primary via their endorsement process for the past couple of decades (at least). They should cease endorsing anyone, period.

Who did they endorse this year?
A bit of a Civil War this year on the MDC.
The MDC endorsed Nancy and Jamaine on March 11th.
On March 18th, the BOSE voted against the turf field proposal at Ritzer Field/CHS. Nancy and Jamaine were two of the "no" votes.
Malia Herman filed to run in the Democratic primary on March 19th in response to the turf vote. She got backing from several MDC members (including current and former TC members).
So, both winning candidates were supported by all or some of the MDC.

If the MDC didn't endorse anyone would the outcome have been the same?
An Ohio question, how does it look there for Sen. Sherrod Brown? One of my favorite Senators, he was one who I had hoped would run for President but it was often pointed out that he was valuable in his Sente seat. Does he look safe?

he's in decent shape to win I think. but it's always dicey when the vote is split, as explained below.
A new Marist poll suggests Ohio voters may split their ticket in this November’s election. Former President Donald Trump holds a seven-point advantage over President Joe Biden in the presidential race, according to the survey. That’s not far off from the eight-point victories Trump secured in Ohio in 2016 and 2020. But in the Senate race, Trump’s favored candidate, Republican Bernie Moreno, trails Ohio Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown by five points.
Marist pollsters surveyed 1,259 Ohioans between June 3 and June 6 with an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.4%. As the sample is whittled to registered voters (1,137) and those definitely planning to vote (987), the margin of error rises to 3.6% and 3.8% respectively.

It's hard to say. If the MDC stopped endorsing candidates, I think more people would run.

not likely. It's a thankless job that doesn't pay.
