It might be hard and it might be uncomfortable but you have to talk about it. You can't keep everything bottled up because then the possibility remains that it can happen again to someone else.

Oh, Laura, I am so sorry. Terrible in particular for the children, who will be less equipped than the adults to wrap their heads around it. Are there family support groups or therapists who deal with this? It's such a devastating way to lose someone I think seeking help beyond family and friends might be wise, at least for awhile.

Meanwhile, although there is no way to make sense of it, really, I send wishes for your family to find strength and comfort in each other and friends.

Please let the MOL community know if there is anything we can help with because in troubled times, friends and family are your bridge to recovery. Just ask for help, because your online community friends are here for you and your family.

Laura, there is no rhyme or reason for your heartbreaking loss. My thoughts are very much with you and your loved ones. It is a profoundly traumatic situation to endure. I speak from my own perspective as a suicide "survivor." My brother hung himself when he was 23-years-old. He did it at home and I found him in the attic. This was 33 years ago this past week. If there is one thing I would have done differently, I would have received serious and sustained counseling. The awful nature of a close relation or loved one's death at their own hand is that it can promote similar thoughts in those who are left behind. And that is because surviving a suicide can mean experiencing untold crippling guilt, anger and sorrow like no other. I share this with you not to alarm you, but to tell you that there *is* light at the end of the tunnel.
