Happy 479th birthday to the Jesuits.

I sure didn't vote for Trump

Tweet from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller of San Antonio, Texas:

"President stop hate and racism, starting with yourself."

"Pax Christi USA, the national Catholic peace and nonviolence movement, joins with the thousands of individuals and groups who have raised their voice over the mass shooting events of the past ten days.  These mass shooting tragedies are not the new normal, but they are the expected consequences of the continued and growing rhetoric of hatred, fear, bigotry, racism, and intolerance voiced consistently from the White House."

Seven people were shot to death in Chicago over the weekend. Tragically, this occurs with great frequency. What is the reasoning here?

Not really sure how this relates to the church, but to tie back into that focus, here's what the Catholic Church in Chicago is working on to address violence in their city:

Notice that tierney who keeps well up to date on Church stuff did not post what nohero posted, the decrying of racial hatred by Church leaders.

Appropriate posts for this thread.

But decrying those, like Trump, the fomenters of hate and fear is not her thing.

Why don't you enlighten us on what you think the reasoning is.

Modern day miracle...

If any good were to come from the moldering corpse of fascist Fulton Sheen, that truly would be a miracle.  I remain skeptical.

One does wonder why doctors would wait a full hour to declare a still born baby dead.

Thanks for that positive story, finnegan, this sort of reporting never makes the nightly news.

People try really hard to be violent to others with words. Some sort of free pass from the safety of their comfortable basements in MOLand?

To quote my Mom when bad things happen:

“Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you.” Mom was wrong.

A priest’s story...

https://www.americamagazine.or...

From the article: "But to understand the vision that animates the mission of Radio Pacis, it is useful to understand the two missionaries who helped start it."

By referring to it as "a priest's story", you left off one half, 50%, the woman who was an equal partner in founding it:  "In 2001, Ms. Meyer and Father Pasolini were asked to jumpstart a new diocesan initiative in mass communications: a local Catholic radio station. On the suggestion of their diocesan bishop at the time, Bishop Drandua of Arua, they named the station Radio Pacis."

I was trying to have a second go at bringing positive stories about priests here.

Do u think I would diss a woman?

Chill out, nohero,

Is this meant to be a serious question?  You hate women.  Misogyny is one of your defining characteristics.

It shows in almost every post.

"Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless."

Supposedly Dietrich Bonhoeffer about Hitler / Nazis, although there is some debate about attributing this to him. Question: does this also apply to Trump & his movement?

Do not feed KB,Inc., either

I can see the plot for the Austin Powers reboot already. “Austin Powers Drie:  Goldmember & Mr. Mao-m Troll the Internet.”

I’m not sure what you’ve heard or read about the latest in the Pell saga. It’s really late in the evening here, thought I’d pass on the news before going to bed: the decision on his appeal will be handed down next Wednesday morning (Australian time), live-streamed from the court room.

This article explains the state of play well, according to our laws.

I am at a loss to figure out a solution to this modern day horror...

https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/at-fertility-clinics-abandoned-human-embryos-could-number-in-the-millions-20719

WWYD? WWJD?

My first thought would be the transplanting of unwanted embryos into another woman’s womb. If this could be done successfully. Would that be similar to surrogate parenting?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if great minds and hearts could work to give these “leftovers” a chance at life?

I believe that you may want to rethink this idea.

I'm sure the President will get right on this.

I listened to the Fresh Air interview with Sister Helen Prejean this morning.  Wow!  If all Catholics talked the Talk and walked the Walk like that woman does, I might consider becoming a Catholic. This interview was the first thing I have heard in a long time that was genuinely inspirational.
