This is not an April Fools joke: Winter Weather Advisory Overnight Sunday - Monday Snow Likely

WTF does that even mean?

The schools were supposed to have a half day today for teacher development. Because of the delayed opening the half day is now a full day with a two hour delayed opening.

Try to keep up.

Oh, they were supposed to go home early. Some schools already had a delayed opening, so I was confused.

Sorry, my original post was unclear. I was assuming everyone knew it was supposed to be an early dismissal today.

There is about 4 inches of snow on my deck railing and the stuff is still falling pretty fast.

I wonder if this snowstorm happened in January before any snow days had already been called if the district would have called a full closing. Hopefully it lets up in time for school drop off. If they had called another snow day I think there would have been massive wailing and gnashing of teeth since two days of April break have already been taken back.

It’s going to be a mess out at 10am if this keeps up. Also no plows in sight on most of the roads.

ok where the eff did this storm come from and why was I not reading max's stuff earlier???

I'm on a side street off of Academy. No plows yet this morning and the snow is sticking on the streets a lot more than during the last storm. And it's still coming down, so I'm wondering about that 10 am school opening.

Yeah, I’m thinking they wait to the last minute and cancel. I don’t relish losing a day of Spring break but I also am not looking forward to playing slip and slide on the way up to the Annex.

Does anyone know when the busses start picking up kids?  I would think that would be the hard deadline to cancel.

we are being de-iced now (was a 7am

Flight). There is a lot of snow. We’ll see...

Just dropped wife at her office by Dunnell Road, roads slippery to very slippery, no city nor county plows in sight, jitneys seem to be running but slipping, sliding, and making wide turns.

Saw one minivan hit a Millburn school bus, police on scene now, not a big hit but contact nevertheless.  Yes it looks like Millburn has normal school opening, but roads not plowed yet.  One car was stuck on railroad overpass on Wyoming, now cleared, one car was spinning wheels nearby, but Wyoming is drivable albeit with reasonable good tires, side streets are anyone's guess.

Otherwise, it's another WINTER day.

There is a New Jersey Transit bus stuck on the road blocking third at Sloan Street near the new parking deck and the train station. It's blocking one lane on each Street, which doesn't seem to be a problem right now because there are not a lot of cars on the road. Hopefully it gets cleared soon before more people are out.

I passed one fender bender on Prospect as well. The plows are out but they have a big job before school.

I think the key today is allow a lot of extra time if you're driving. I took it slow over to Union and it was fine but there are definitely some roads that need work.

This originally was scheduled as a day with no lunch. Don't know if they can call in the cafeteria workers at this late hour, so it might be a good idea to brown-bag it just in case.

CHS principal tweeted: “Smart to stay in at lunch today due to weather — pack lunch if possible, options may be limited.”

Spent yesterday raking out the beds and clearing tree detritus from the yard.

It started snowing around 2:30 AM in Morristown.  Went back to sleep, woke with the alarm at 4:30 AM to total white cover of streets and lawns and trees.

At 6 AM I cleared about 4 inches off of my car and it was coming down at a very heavy clip.  I am guessing that the 6 inch projection will hold for Morristown, if not a bit more where we are (on a height).

I am counting on a warm afternoon and rain tomorrow to take care if it for me.

My rule has always been that if I don’t feel safe out, I can call the kids in absent (especially in elementary school)

I just finished the second leg of my morning journey to Edison. The parkway South is clear and moving well ... probably averaged 45-50 the whole way. I passed one pretty deep puddle in the left lane that had everyone slowed down around Kenilworth.

Snow tapering off now with a full stop within about an hour.

max what happened , you were only one that called this although quietly oh oh Did the mainstream meteorologists just miss this? I hear the roads are treacherous right now...

Max is almost always more accurate than others because he shares the reasoning behind the forecasts.  We can read the what and why of what he writes and educate ourselves.  To me the best thing about his forecasts is that I am always learning.  (By accurate I don't mean to the inch, I mean ranges).

I agree max's threads are usually the first place I come across news of upcoming weather events ... back to when he was giving analysis leading up to Sandy. I bought batteries a week ahead of that storm because of what he was writing.

However this storm was also predicted by my weather app on my phone. Yesterday morning they were calling for 3-6" overnight. This was not really a surprise.

Although this was in the NWS discussion a few days ago, they did not bump it up to the headline forecast until right around the time I posted it.  I think in part the mainstream media missed it because it was never going to be a nor'easter or 'big storm' just a moderate (for midwinter) snowfall, and because the runup really happened over a holiday weekend.  Even the weenies are sick of snow at this point and really didn't get too excited.

The National Weather Service was on target for this one (while Max was still assuming a bit less, to be honest).  If your weather apps didn’t predict this, you need new weather apps!

Anyway, it's over.

6.4" on 0.61" of water.

I never would have believed -- I really did not believe -- we would get better than 10:1 yield with this system, with the ground being this warm and the warm air in front of it, but we did.

Yes, I missed low.  Like I said above I did not believe it would yield like this.  I was 2 - 4" and the NWS 4 - 6"

The weather is very humbling.

Really now, let's hope we have a few months of no weather threads!

Well Max, then  find something else to write about, because I enjoy your lessons.

Walked to the senior center this morning. [Didn't find out until I got there that my class had been canceled.  Still haven't seen a message canceling the class and class was supposed to begin 36 minutes ago.]  Stayed mostly in the street.  For the most part the streets were unplowed when I left, getting better when I finally made it home a few minutes ago.  Saw only one accident going (Springfield Avenue just west of Tuscan Street - looked like one car rear ended the other).  Cars were mostly going slowly.  No evidence of slipping and sliding. Coming home, side streets were still unplowed but passable.  Main streets were clear.

But in the future, the S word is not allowed after March 21st.

I seem to remember a mid-April snowstorm in the 90's....

I know.  I remember the 4/15(?) snow sometime in the late 1990's.

On the other hand, the more positive vibes we can produce, the lower the likelyhood that it (the S....) will accumulate.
