how can you not have Split Enz??
in the U.S., Crowded House was a lot better known.

One of my top 10 favorite songs of the 80s EVER.  A few Sundays back, Acoustic Sunrise played a recent acoustic version of this song - Neil sang it so beautifully, it was amazing.

I remember my roommate listening to that back in the day.

Speaking of Australia, this is the first INXS song I ever heard:

haven't heard this one in a really long time.

Erins, Neil’s recent work is pure magic - happy sighs.

Have you guys heard of the Doug Anthony AllStars? Ridski? Maybe via Edinburgh?

D said I should post these:

Who listened to WLIR in the 80's? Listened to it all the time.  When we were going out to the clubs and bars a key attribute of a guy was whether he had "WLIR Taste."  Here is their list of the top 200 songs of the 80's:

Highly recommend this documentary. It chronicles the rise and fall of WLIR. I will admit that station was the perfect soundtrack to my clubbing days. Growing up in Queens nightlife was equally split between NYC and LI.

And, damn, how did this thread last so long with no U2?

.. or Annie Lennox, or well, so many others... cheese

Clearly I existed in an entirely different 80’s.

Speaking of radio stations: Traveling back to 1984 with this student-produced TV segment about the University of North Carolina’s WXYC just might be worth however many of the 15 minutes you stick with it.

Spill! (Preferably with videos.)

MTV dominated my high school years - some of the silliest videos were

Men Without Hats - Safety Dance

Blotto - I wanna be a lifeguard

plus Cindy Lauper, Madness, Men at Work et al.

Does anyone else remember Canada's other power trio Triumph?

Or possibly the worst video of all time, from 1984:

Thank you, BettyD! I have always enjoyed your music related threads.

Although I was "too cool" for pop in the 80s, (I preferred 50s tunes and wore a "flat top," perhaps influenced by, "Stand By Me," "Christine,"  and "Peggy Sue Got Married." *see image. Basically our parent's nostalgia got me. I mean, come on, "Fonzie?") I basically took two steps toward Rock-a-Billy and three steps back into Potsy.

When I heard this song in "Risky Business," I became a guy who only listened to 50s songs and TALKING HEADS.

this song is about as '80s as can be

If you lived in the NYC territory in the 80's, do you remember the video channel U68?

saw this band at Seton Hall in the early '80s opening for The Ramones. You might recognize the singer.

also saw these guys at the Seton Hall student center:

Have we mentioned Severed Heads? Max Headroom?

Ridski, who was that fun man from the UK with foam hands - Kenny Everett? Didn’t he feature some popular singers and dancers? Hot Gossip. That’s the group I was thinking of. cheese
