Trump was chosen by God, Really

Trump is about the least Christian person I can think of. Thrice married, loves money above all else, is a compulsive liar, has no humility, is a narcissist, a cheater, an abuser of women, lacks compassion, stokes fear and anger, and is vulgar.

He really has not a single redeeming or Christian quality.

Agree. 100% phony.

Yet, we have die hard Christians such as our mtierney just love Trump. What does that tell us about them?

Association fallacy

An association fallacy is an informal inductive fallacy of the hasty-generalization or red-herring type and which asserts, by irrelevant association and often by appeal to emotion, that qualities of one thing are inherently qualities of another. Two types of association fallacies are sometimes referred to as guilt by association and honor by association.

I always say, you can’t tell anything about a person by his or her politics.

They believe god is working through Trump. All else isn't important. You know what they say - the Lord works in mysterious ways.

What do these people think he has done for them?
Handed over the Supreme Court to pro-life justices.
I do not see the people at his rallies as the "Pro-Life" crowd. Look at the quote "people who work hard and have been overlooked".

"Work hard and overlooked" is code for racist white people.

Clean-shaved Taliban.

Some of Trump's supporters are "Pro Life", that is, opposed to legal abortion. Some are Racists who don't like Blacks and Hispanics and think that they, White people, are the true victims of discrimination.

But I believe that some are working people with "false consciousness". They see themselves as members of an oppressed Class but rather than seeing their oppressors as the Capitalist Class they see their oppressors as "Liberal Elites".

Either way they are fools and Trump is laughing his way to the bank.

I've noticed that the moneyed classes in the U.S. have been quite successful over the years at finding bogeymen to terrify the working classes - socialists, communists, etc., etc.

Honestly, i'm not up for dissecting and refuting this this afternoon, but would start with (1) great way to push away people who were Obama voters before they were Trump voters (among others), and (2) what LOST said above starting with "SOME [emphasis added] of Trump's supporters...."

Or do you really think everything is hunky-dory for middle- and working-class people in the US, politically and economically??

I believe it was Oren Hatch who complained that God isn't making angry, old white men fast enough to save the Republican Party.

Edited to add "old" to the quote.

So that's why they turned to uncle Vlad for help?

Anybody who thinks God hand-selects world leaders has to answer for Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot and of course Hitler.

Well, Mark Twain did say God has a sense of humor. He invented Mary Baker Eddy.

No. You don't get it.

We are an exceptional nation blessed by God. Therefore, God graced us, and only us, with His selection of Trump as our leader.

 question

(Not to be rude)

And here we have Jerry Falwell reinforcing the evangelical message of Trump's goodness:

Donald Trump is a “good moral person” and an example to the nation, according to one of the most prominent evangelical Christians in the US.

Jerry Falwell, who is credited along with other evangelical leaders with delivering a huge Christian vote for Trump in 2016, said he had “no doubts, no hesitations” about supporting the president. “He is like Ronald Reagan on steroids.”

In an interview with the Guardian, Falwell also described the Democrats as fascists and “Brownshirts”, and said the US would be engaged in civil war if this was the 18th century rather than the 21st century.

Unlike the bad, the immoral - those fascist and Brownshirt Democrats.

There is something seriously wrong with us with so many swallowing this crap. Moore is correct:

The dumbing down of our society through the media, the lack of education through poor schools, allows for a dumbed-down electorate, and for him to be able to actually get 63 million votes. - Michael Moore

Mjc, it may help to look at the quote in context of the entire article.  The article was not about those who voted for Obama and shifted to support Trump. It was about white Christian conservatives who disliked Obama/Clinton and that are ignoring Trump's numerous faults despite their self-professed love of God.  It's massive hypocrisy due to their irrational fear of people from other races, religions, and countries.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/sep/21/christian-conservatives-trump-values-voters

There was a follow-up article to that yesterday, interviewing people who grew up in what we’d now call white supremacist households in the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s and who have  confronted their unconscious racism. Interesting reading; I think the next article will be stronger.

yahooyahoo - Good point.  I don't think i did read the whole article.  I will try to look at it tomorrow.  I just am set off by anything that sounds remotely like lumping all Trump voters together and writing them all off.  Big (biggest possible?) mistake in my view.  But probably not related to what you were saying.
