Crane’s
Yes! I forgot about Crane's and how much I loved them and their sandwiches! My waistline thanks me though.
Anyone remember the Italian deli on Irvington ave? Best meatball sandwiches along with awesome mozzarella n tomato on a roll, and the daily specials. the name escapes me. My sister still misses Junior Sighs and Decorating on a Velvet Shoestring on the Ave.
Love the AP photo with Tillie. Major childhood memories. Does anyone know if that Ferris wheel still exists somewhere in some form, or was it scrapped?

Olympic Park. Would'a been a great place to take the grandkids.
Maplewood Camera (they sold vinyl albums in the back, where I bought my first Beatles Album). Today it's Village Coffee.

The Laurel
What was "The Laurel"? The name sounds familiar but I can't quite place it.

The Laurel
Was an excellent restaurant run by a father and daughter in the space (I think) that became The Belmont and then Sprout. Or maybe Abril Cocina? Sadly, the father passed away.
Ditto to the person who mentioned The Union Market, I loved the place

Sundays said:It was a deli-restaurant that had gigantic pastrami sandwiches. Heavy food, but good.
I don't go back as far as most of you, but I liked when there was a diner in what became Tutor Time. Only ate there a couple of times, don't remember if it was good or not, but I sure loved the location for a diner.

Grunings (on the hill, loved the view, especially at night), and Don's--great burgers. Sitting at the counter was an experience unto itself. Also miss The Bookstop in Maplewood.
I didn't live here then, but my grandparents lived in Millburn and, when we would visit as children, they always took us to Grunings up on the hill where The Top is now. By the time I moved here, in 1986, there was only Grunings in downtown SO and we went a few times, but then that one closed

The post office and the parking.
Just curious what is different (other than the location) that you don't like? Is it the shortage of parking at the other end of the village? Because the parking at/near Ricalton square doesn't seem that different to me. Maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't had too much trouble parking at the new place.
I DO miss the drive-by mailbox in that parking lot that you could reach from the driver side of the car, though. Whose idea was it to relocate it where they did and put it on the passenger side?

But the A&S in the Short Hills Mall wasn't an 8-story Art Deco building, with carvings on the elevator doors, Christmas trees hanging from the ceiling in December....it was magical to a child who visited the Fulton Street store. I don't miss the business, per se, I miss the store and the sense of magic that I had when I visited it. I had thought that was what this thread was about.
The A&S on Fulton St in BK was beautiful. I worked there in handbags at Christmas time as a secondary hustle so I could afford toys for my kiddies. They had a great return policy also.

Sac, Ditto about that silly mailbox move. How dumb is that?
This is one thing that is easily remedied and could be brought back. How stupid that you have to stop the car, park it and get out to mail your letter.
I really miss the pair of boxes that used to be in the Recalton lot.
(Recently noticed that there is a mailbox just off Valley across from the Stop and Shop and by the liquor store. You have to park and get out, but the side street has low traffic volume and you can also run in to get a six pack or bottle of wine. )
Promote your business here - Businesses get highlighted throughout the site and you can add a deal.
