The Rose Garden and White House happenings: Listening to voters’ concerns

I agree, but unfortunately social media (incl MOL) probably stimulates "going with your gut" over reflection

Two things that aren’t as hard as people make them out to be: taming your gut impulses when you’re on social media, and earning the respect of Philly fans if you’re a pro athlete.

Strike through “pro athlete” and replace with “Santa” for winning local joke reference.

Oh, the poor maligned Philly fans.

Truth be told, my one encounter with them recently showed a compassionate side.  They offered condolences when I unfolded a Giants chair at a softball game.

we had Giants season tickets in the old stadium.  When our kids were around 8-10 we wouldn't take them to games when the Giants played the Eagles because of the behavior of the Philly fans.  This isn't a joke about Santa Claus or punching horses, or jail at the Vet.  It was real -- the only games we kept the kids from attending.  And it's not like I'm a prude about bad language or rowdy behavior.  I truly thought the potential was always there for a fight to start at almost any time.

I wouldn't support a primary candidate as old as Biden to begin with but one does wonder what the hell he was thinking.

The lines are drawn.  Furthering the candidacy of someone (anyone) who supports a treasonous regime led by a known sexual predator is unfathomable.

not hard to figure — easy money — and he probably figured his loyal fan base would forgive him, or forget about it.

I don't fault anybody for accepting fees to speak.  I question why these fees are paid sometimes, but that is another issue.

And are we at the point where a Democrat can't praise a Republican for supporting a worthy cause?  For Biden, the fight against cancer is very personal.

Unlike some public figures, Joe Biden cannot shoot a man in the middle of 5th Avenue and be sure that he will not lose any support from his base. Dem politics are complicated, they involve things like ethics and thought which are completely absent from today's GOP.

But I don't have to tell you that.....

Hitler made the trains run on time. There are nice things that can be said about almost anyone (Trump loves one of his daughters, however inappropriately he may demonstrate that love).  Those singular nice things don't excuse a Democrat for, in the course of an active election, singing the praises of a Republican candidate who has voted with Trump 95% of the time.  That goes double when the Dem in question hasn't endorsed the Repug's opponent.

We are in a war here folks.  Providing aid and comfort to the enemy is not cool even when they pay you generously for your time.

There is a difference between the Trump Republican base and others. Most of the country is not composed of robots lacking critical thinking skills.

I'm sure cancer is personal to Biden. Was it personal enough that he donated his 200,000 fee to a cancer charity?

I haven't been impressed with Biden considering the Anita Hill debacle, his shepherding of Clarence Thomas through the senate into the SC.

only reference to cancer in my link that  I saw was Biden’s noting the GOP candidate’s support of  a medical research law.

“Mr. Biden stunned Democrats and elated Republicans by praising Mr. Upton while the lawmaker looked on from the audience. Alluding to Mr. Upton’s support for a landmark medical-research law, Mr. Biden called him a champion in the fight against cancer — and “one of the finest guys I’ve ever worked with.”

Nepotism. Alive and so well.

President’s son-in-law was turned down by two White House officials over his family’s businesses and his foreign contacts.

A new report that a White House official appointed by Donald Trump overruled the advice of two specialist adjudicators to award top security clearance to the president’s son-in-law has raised fresh questions about the way the White House is conducting top security matters.

Jared Kushner was awarded top security clearance giving him access to highly sensitive national security intelligence last May after a prolonged delay in his FBI background checks.
...
Two career White House officials specializing in assessing individuals for their security risk turned Kushner down for the sensitive “top secret” category, the report states.
...
Having rejected Kushner for the clearance, the decision was reversed by Trump appointee Carl Kline, a former official in the department of defense who was put in charge of the personnel security office at the White House four months after Trump took office.

Trump appointee overruled rejection of Jared Kushner's top security clearance

Imagine if Hillary was president and something like this was done. We would see right wing nuclear explosions with the congressional "Freedom" caucus screaming impeach.

Very strong speech by Sen. Michael Bennett ripping into Ted Cruz over the wall and the shutdown.

After watching NBC’s coverage of the Washington Right to Life encounter, I will no longer expect to find the truth of any event, or even the semblance of journalistic conduct on that channel.

No one asked me, or even cares what I think, but who advised Senator Cruz to grow a beard? Devilishly unattractive IMHO. grrr

About to find out what's being said in the Rose Garden.

This is the point where the cameras should just shut off and the press corp should just start packing their things and going back home.

I think Pelosi did a great job.  But to a great extent, Trump's dealmaking was more a case of self-immolation.

It's Friday and his rich buddies needed to leave the mistresses in NYC and get back to their wives, but all the airports were shut down.

Also, Stone Arrest Deflection.

Also, vast, vast quantities of Adderall snorted right before the speech he could barely read.

can we get another presser out of Morticia and Gomez?  Oh pretty please.

Comedy gold.

Unclear. Was this part on the TelePrompTer?

“And not only did you not complain, but in many cases you encouraged me to keep going because you care so much about our country and about its border security. Again, I thank you. All Americans, I thank you. You are very, very special people. I am so proud that you are citizens of our country. When I say make America great again, it could never be done without you great people.“

Because that’s the second half of the second paragraph, and that’s pretty much when he started rambling incoherently like a massive cokehead at an 80s-themed “steakhouse”.

your last sentence shows distain for Native Americans, Ridski. Mentally ill folks also might take offense as well.  question

I agree. Comparing Trump to mentally ill people is an insult to the mentally ill.

Good point. I apologize for the phrase and will amend it.

I fully understand the need to protect former POTUS families from harm. But I wonder why the Obama family decided to rent $8.1M house and then enclose the property more by building a four foot brick wall with a six foot fence on top?

Not looking for an argument, but questioning the financial reasoning. Or are we paying for it?

Perhaps the family intends to buy the property at some point?

I heard from a reliable source that Kenya paid for this wall, so don't worry!
