The Rose Garden and White House happenings: Listening to voters’ concerns

Bail reform is a state-level policy, as can be seen in the current discussion in the NY legislature.

No matter what any cartoonist tells you

.Bragg won office with his promise of bail reform and revolving door criminal release.

Speaking of porn stars and liars….

And you truly believe that campaign rhetoric, designed to win votes, is not exaggerated, altered, or twisted?

I wasn't talking about campaign rhetoric.  I was talking about the sources you rely on for the facts of what people did and said.

That's such an absurd take it's not even offensive.

I think what is truly “absurd” is not one of you will admit that the Educator-in-Chief thought it okay to diminish the amazing victory by the black women’s, team and the historic honor of an invitation to the White House. Where is the outrage?

The posters who have the habit of referring to black people as having “green” complexions  should really address their concerns about skin color in cartoons to the Crayola Co. or the cartoonists union. Or get a life, better yet.

Clearly the stress and despair has gotten to you.  You appear to, in fact, be deranged.

It's kind of nice that you and the right wing are finally outraged that Black people have been treated with disrespect.

For myself, by the time I even knew about Jill Biden's statement, it had already been made clear that only LSU was being invited to thr White House. So it was a little late for me to work up a big outrage. But was her off the cuff comment racist? Maybe.  Probably. The sport of basketball in this country has been racially fraught for decades. A lot of white people aren't able to deal with a sport that is dominated by Black athletes. Is that why fans are so excited by Iowa's Caitlin Clark? Because she's an amazing player AND she's white? Maybe. And that may be why, at least unconsciously, Dr. Biden wanted Clark's team to come to the White House.

With regard to my noticing the strange tint of Black people's skin in your cartoons -- I just think it's noteworthy that white people are depicted with normal skin tones, but Black people are shown with skin that is akin to reptiles or Herman Munster.

Jeez, Mtierney, get a clue.  Jill Biden just wanted to give Iowa a participation trophy.  She's an educator and probably believes all students are winners.

Aha, the infamous charges.. Please excuse the mess — getting used to my new Ipad Air and am in love with my ApplePencil! For the complexion concerned, I am often quite red in the face. Coffee needed!

you read all those NYT articles and you somehow missed one of the most important aspects of the indictment? -- the allegation that the falsification of records was done to commit tax fraud.

this case has turned out not to just be "hush money to a porn star." It's a lot more than that, and it fits with Trump's history of committing fraud at every turn.

You've cited David French before.  Here he is on his reading of the Trump charges.

Opinion | What You Need to Know About the Trump Charges - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

What is the strongest part of the district attorney’s case against Trump?

The facts. There is abundant evidence — including both witness testimony and documentary evidence — that Trump entered into a scheme to pay off people who could have embarrassed him in the last days of the 2016 campaign. (If merely paying off paramours were itself a crime, then Trump would almost certainly be guilty.)

Moreover, the prosecutor’s case against Trump is strengthened by Cohen’s guilty plea. In his plea, Cohen confessed to violating federal campaign finance laws in connection to the Daniels and McDougal payoff schemes. Under federal campaign finance law, a key question is whether the Daniels payments were made to influence the election. Cohen, during his guilty plea in federal court, specifically stated that he “participated in this conduct” for “the principal purpose of influencing the election.”

Bragg also presented evidence that Trump considered delaying the payments as long as he could; if he could delay until after the election, he suggested he wouldn’t make the payoffs at all, “because at that point it would not matter if the story became public,” according to the statement of facts accompanying the indictment. This strongly implies that one of the Trump team’s past defenses — that he made the payments not to help him win the election but to prevent embarrassment to his wife and family — is highly implausible.

Mtierney,

When will the scales fall from your eyes?

“After several decades and an unfortunate and disastrous presidency, we all know who exactly Donald J. Trump is — a man who seeks to deny justice and fairness for others, while claiming only innocence for himself.”

So far, the Bragg travesty in NYC (he won his job by supporting “catch and release” policing,  and Bail reform) appears to be putting every important issue in the United States on the back burner, while Trump is front and center in the news 24/7, getting the attention of his base and gaining the sympathy of non-Biden voters who recognize malicious prosecution when they see it. Plus, the complete disruption in NYC yesterday (did you know all 38,000 police officers were told to come into work yesterday?) will cost the city exactly how much?

Remember Nashville’s six murdered adults and nine-year olds, and their shooter?…illegal immigration and drugs entering at our southern border….homelessness….tornado-devastated states across middle America…The Ukraine conflict…the Biden family saga,  etc? Everything is pushed off the radar with a phony political farce!

Bragg travesty

I really am glad that you normed the practice of calling people deranged because there really couldn't be a better term for your posts on topic.

As for the idea that the prosecution of a notorious criminal is somehow impeding the people's business I would point out that the President hasn't even stopped to comment on this state prosecution.

Again, this is the reason why Trump isn't in jail right now.

They were preparing in the event of violence by Trump supporters. If they didn't prepare, there would be criticism like this -

Where were DC police, Capitol police, FBI, the National Guard, etc etc? Everyone had known about the plan who owned an iphone, was on social media, etc etc. But, these angry, disappointed mobs seemed to meet no resistance. Why? Who doesn’t know of, or failed to see, the disconnect that exists in America? Hoodlums become heroes and the protection of our government is non-existent.

No, I didn’t know. The news reports I saw said it was a stand-ready order, not a report-to-work order.

Are you making jokes at the expense of the very real recent issues I referred to? Shame on you!

The idea of a Trump supporter having even a passing familiarity with the concept of shame is pretty funny.

The woman who is arguing that famous people should be immune from prosecution is trying to shame the rest of us.

That really is deranged!

I particularly like the part where she, a proud supporter of the party of mass shootings, accuses Dems of ignoring the Nashville School Massacre.

Demented!

There’s no medication that treats cognitive dissonance. She’s probably taking several pills daily and her doctor thinks she’s doing very well for a woman her age, but I doubt she’s on medication for dementia. She’s just a gullible American who misses the America she grew up in, it is a depressing experience, which I see in a lot of older people in my family and circle of friends. I’ve learned to change the topic when they start lamenting. They only have a few more years with us, and no amount of debating will change their views. It’s a process of letting go that they’re having difficulty with.

Oh, I didn't mean that she literally has dementia.  That would be the sort of aegist insult that she routinely hurdles at President Biden and I would like to think I am above that.

I just meant to say that her mindless partisanship (as opposed to age) has left her effectively addled, demented and deranged.

The joke was made at your expense. There is no shame in enjoying a joke made at one’s own expense.

You want "shameless"? How's this:

GOP lawmakers consider expelling Democrats over gun protest (WaPo)

"Tennessee’s GOP-dominated House is preparing to vote Thursday on whether to expel three Democratic members for their demonstration calling for gun control following the Nashville school shooting, an extraordinary move that the chamber has used only a handful of times since the Civil War."
