When to shovel?

Doesn.t work here.  The plows just come along and push the snow against the curb as they go.  Shoveling the sidewalk does not even prevent the plows from depositing snow there after you have shoveled the first time.

They're talking about shoveling the street area Joan not the sidewalk area. I just confirmed this on Facebook.

What's the going rate for shovelers?  My snow blower just crapped out - it's a one pass - so it was struggling already.  I normally do 2 properties, amazingly my mom's neighbor has been very neighborly, but wouldn't expect them to help out with this amount of snow.

Did recycling come through?

I paid $200 and they did a lousy job.  I still need to widen the sidewalks.  At least there is a path pedestrians can use for now.  Recycling has  been canceled for this week.

I know.  The street clearance is bad enough.  Plows are still coming through on my street depositing thick layers of slush.  I understand the need to do this so the streets will be safe for travel.  What I do not understand is the need to deposit street sludge on the sidewalk. The blade could adjusted so that it kept the sludge along the gutter.  Pedestrians need a safe place to travel too.

Ah. didn't see this. Recycling postponed until tomorrow I heard.

yeah, I had one group come through with a $200 - and one of the kids could take venmo.  A bit pricey - next crew asked for $100 but no venmo.  I'm just doing a little at a time, and Simone is anxious to help after some of her calls.

... and now it is snowing again.

Dang, that snow got HEA-VY over the course of the day. I love that snowblower Ms. bikefixed made me get. One tank of gas and I did both sides of the block's sidewalks. Two cars and 5 driveway aprons later I'm empty, both of gas and energy. But it is just straight-up fun when you can play with that machine.

I have been aware of this for years, and doing it.

Today one of Maplewood DPW finest proved that no civic consideration goes unpunished, when he plowed against the direction of traffic, so all the mush I had shoveled to the RIGHT of my drive way, got pushed back in front.

seems like the shoveling effort is about the same.

that's what I was thinking, especially with the depth of snow to the left of my driveway.  What the plow put back was pretty bad, but nothing like the mounds of snow on either side of my driveway.

Earlier today I finished "Shoveling Part 3 -The Final Redemption".

Roll credits.

My son, a young strapping lad, went out to shovel his car out and gave up after about 10 minutes.

This does not bode well for my car.

I also did my neighbor's driveway and sidewalk using his snowblower. He had a heart attack a couple years ago so I told him "Gimme that thing. I don't need you droppin' dead out here and messin' up my whole day".

The slush is freezing. Tomorrow morning could be really ugly early on. And really dangerous. Just FYI.

I've done two passes since I can lift only so much weight at a time.  Most of it is coming up easily except for where people have trampled it.
