Apologies, I thought that db posting the link to the story yesterday was enough context. My "faith group code" is still listed, so I have no skin in this game.

They kept Druid?
cheese

Ha! Maybe one of the 3 kinds of Wiccan they had listed, but I guess fall under No Religion, even though they used to have No Religion, Atheist, and Humanist listed. I just post about Celtic festivals from a cultural perspective, rather than a religious one.

Discussion: Bari Weiss Poised to Ruin "60 Minutes"

i was actually referring to the stars. i'm quite sure they'd do just fine.

but as for everyone else on staff - do you think that anyone with "60 minutes" on their resume would have trouble finding a job?

Not to be pointlessly argumentative, but I will take issue with the assumption that landing a job in broadcast television is anything but challenging these days. Broadcast media outlets are not thriving today.

It may seem like a minor quibble, but it’s part of the reason that someone like Weiss can do what she’s doing. A lot of the staff members have probably worked for years to get where they are. Giving that up for the uncertainty of the job market has to be daunting. Plus heaven only knows what blacklist you’d end up on.

Just my thoughts.

Discussion: RIP Suzanne Ng - Long-time Poster on MOL

saw on FB that she passed after what seems like a fairly lengthy illness she was fighting with an optimistic spirit. I looked up her comments here and apparently she hadn't posted in nearly a decade, which would explain why my memory of her contributions were kind of fuzzy. But it seems like she was here mostly to give or request good advice. I never met her but she seemed like a positive person. And as mrincredible noted, gone too soon.

Discussion: Summer Weather Thread

Monday June 8th

The week starts warm and dry then midsummer happens

Today, clouds thin out and we should end up with afternoon sun and a high around 80⁰, humidity lingers. Low tonight mid 50⁰s

Tuesday, sunnier, less humid, a bit warmer, high in the low to mid 80⁰s, overnight lows lower 60⁰s

Wednesday, might see a shower in the morning, then chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. High mid 80⁰s, low around 70⁰

The back end of the week is still a bit unclear, but it is likely to include highs around 90⁰, moderate humidity, and possibly afternoon thunderstorms

Also a fan.  Once upon a time I saw her perform at the Public Theater, as Mimi in La Boheme. Enjoyed it immensely.

That album Canciones is marvelous. Sublime. The best mariachi musicians money could buy at the time. There's a very nice Ronstadt documentary out there somewhere. I think I've seen it twice. I admired so much her always wanting to do something different, something more. Mariachi, Gilbert & Sullivan and more. I also saw video once, a long time ago, of her in the recording studio with Ruben Blades showing her Spanish singing techniques. Can't seem to find it now. The two of them recorded and performed his Silencios in the 80s. Marvelous stuff.

Canciones De Mi Padre (pick any song, I can't, I love them all!) - Linda Ronstadt. The second you mentioned her Mr.T, memories of her concert flooded my soul with my deep love for all the music of Mexico.

Today (9 June) is National Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Day. Too short notice to bake your own; buy one and enjoy with ice cream!

Yum. Because of its tantalizingly limited season, strawberry rhubarb may be my favorite pie.

Yep. We have established that if Putin didn’t invade then there would be no war.

the only problem with this new policy is that it doesn't go far enough.

well, also that it's one more step on the road to christian nationalism.

DOD Officially Drops 180 Faiths From Military's Recognized Religion List

How will this fit in with the whole Constitution thingy?

does the constitution require recognition of every half-witted organization that declares itself a religion?

maybe it does - and that would explain a large part of why we're so f***ed.

the 1st amendment is such a freaking disaster.

let's give person-hood to corporations!

let's equate money with speech!

don't tax religions!

etc etc etc etc

what a mistake.

Let's start with the question "why does the military have a list of recognized religions?"

Because the military provides chaplains for religious soldiers, and knowing how many troops belong to which denominations allows the military to recruit and deploy them where they are most needed, no?
