Apologies, I thought that db posting the link to the story yesterday was enough context. My "faith group code" is still listed, so I have no skin in this game.
They kept Druid?
Ha! Maybe one of the 3 kinds of Wiccan they had listed, but I guess fall under No Religion, even though they used to have No Religion, Atheist, and Humanist listed. I just post about Celtic festivals from a cultural perspective, rather than a religious one.
i was actually referring to the stars. i'm quite sure they'd do just fine.
but as for everyone else on staff - do you think that anyone with "60 minutes" on their resume would have trouble finding a job?
Not to be pointlessly argumentative, but I will take issue with the assumption that landing a job in broadcast television is anything but challenging these days. Broadcast media outlets are not thriving today.
It may seem like a minor quibble, but it’s part of the reason that someone like Weiss can do what she’s doing. A lot of the staff members have probably worked for years to get where they are. Giving that up for the uncertainty of the job market has to be daunting. Plus heaven only knows what blacklist you’d end up on.
saw on FB that she passed after what seems like a fairly lengthy illness she was fighting with an optimistic spirit. I looked up her comments here and apparently she hadn't posted in nearly a decade, which would explain why my memory of her contributions were kind of fuzzy. But it seems like she was here mostly to give or request good advice. I never met her but she seemed like a positive person. And as mrincredible noted, gone too soon.
...HEAT ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT FROM NOON THURSDAY TO 8 PM EDT FRIDAY...
* WHAT...Heat index values up to near 100 expected.
* WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York.
* WHEN...From noon Thursday to 8 PM EDT Friday.
* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Heat Advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 95 to 99 degrees for two or more consecutive days, or 100 to 104 degrees for any length of time.
Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at an increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoor temperatures.
Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. If you don`t have home air conditioning, continue to seek out cool spaces each day as long as it remains hot, and for a few days after if your home is still hot. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.
We’ve discussed the first paragraph of the Horton excerpt. Here’s the second:
The next year, the new Rada, led by the Nazis, passed supposed “de-communization laws” that prohibited criticism of fascists in Ukrainian history. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum issued a statement saying they were “deeply concerned” about how this law would be used to rehabilitate the OUN and UPA.
So you verified that the Rada was led by Nazis — Nazis who passed, among the “de-communization laws,” one that was titled “Condemning Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes in Ukraine and Prohibiting the Propaganda of Their Symbols.”
You also read the Holocaust museum’s statement for yourself, seeing that in addition to expressing concern about the laws it said that “we applaud Ukraine for the initial steps it has taken” toward an honest examination of its national past.
And you didn’t stop at two paragraphs. You continued in this vein, checking Horton sentence by sentence to maintain your trust in his reliability. I salute your commitment to factual and contextual accuracy.
Also a fan. Once upon a time I saw her perform at the Public Theater, as Mimi in La Boheme. Enjoyed it immensely.
That album Canciones is marvelous. Sublime. The best mariachi musicians money could buy at the time. There's a very nice Ronstadt documentary out there somewhere. I think I've seen it twice. I admired so much her always wanting to do something different, something more. Mariachi, Gilbert & Sullivan and more. I also saw video once, a long time ago, of her in the recording studio with Ruben Blades showing her Spanish singing techniques. Can't seem to find it now. The two of them recorded and performed his Silencios in the 80s. Marvelous stuff.

Like 3 LikesThe week starts warm and dry then midsummer happens
Today, clouds thin out and we should end up with afternoon sun and a high around 80⁰, humidity lingers. Low tonight mid 50⁰s
Tuesday, sunnier, less humid, a bit warmer, high in the low to mid 80⁰s, overnight lows lower 60⁰s
Wednesday, might see a shower in the morning, then chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon. High mid 80⁰s, low around 70⁰
The back end of the week is still a bit unclear, but it is likely to include highs around 90⁰, moderate humidity, and possibly afternoon thunderstorms

Ahhh. I was wondering about the “left” in a photo with only one bird. My own avian brain at work.
Good thing ridski was on the case.

Yum. Because of its tantalizingly limited season, strawberry rhubarb may be my favorite pie.
